Mulund residents upset as BMC goes back on promise to restore playground

Angry residents of Mulund East are in a head-on clash with the civic body after a gaping hole filled with water in the area's only playground has not been filled despite the corporation promising to do so.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had, last month dug a temporary pond at the spot, despite protests by locals, for Ganesh visarjan. It had even put up a board declaring that the pond was a temporary one and the ground would be restored after Anant Chaturdashi.

Telangana women burn `poor quality` saris given as gifts

The free distribution of over one crore saris for women below the poverty line for the upcoming traditional 'Bathukamma' festival began across Telangana yesterday. But, the sari distribution found itself in a row with the saris allegedly being burnt over poor quality.

While the state government held the Opposition responsible for the burning of saris, cops have booked those involved. Apparently, the saris cost between Rs 200 and Rs 220.

Kolkata: The elder brother of West Bengal Law and Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak is believed to have been swept away while performing a ritual in Damodar river in West Bardhaman district on Tuesday, police said.

"Ashim Ghatak, a senior advocate of Asansol sub-divisional magistrate court in the district and elder brother of state Minister Moloy Ghatak went missing while offering 'tarpan' in the Damodar river on Tuesday afternoon. Even as the Ola and Uber drivers' union called for a flash strike starting from Monday midnight, there was hardly any impact observed during the Tuesday morning rush hour as most drivers seem to be unaware of it. Mumbai: MSF staff go on flash strike at Ghatkopar metro station

The Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), which provides security to Mu­mbai Metro and key civic hospitals, went on a flash strike this morning, taking authorities by surprise. According to a source, the staff did not report for duty, and instead led a protest at Ghatkopar Metro station.
